The holiday season should bring joy, not stress over shopping for the perfect gifts. While it’s rewarding to see the happiness on your friends and families’ faces when opening presents, the time and effort it takes to get to that point can be overwhelming.
To make your holiday shopping less stressful and more enjoyable, here are a few tips worth taking advantage of.
1. Make a list and stick to it
With all of the deals stores put out around the holidays, it’s easy to get carried away and buy more than you intended. Before you head out on your shopping excursion, make a specific list of your recipients, gift ideas for each of them, and how much you’re willing to spend per person.
2. Do research
While making a shopping list, do some research. Check online for deals and specials before hitting the stores. Don’t be afraid to pick up the phone and confirm a deal or that a store has the specific item that you’re looking for. It’s never fun to make a purchase only to later find the same item somewhere else for much cheaper.
3. Ask for gift receipts
Even if you think you’ve come up with the perfect gift for someone, you could have been beaten to the punch and they already received it. While many people opt out of getting a gift receipt, that’s why it’s important to do so.
4. Be thoughtful
At the end of the day, it’s the thought that counts. When in doubt about a gift to give, get creative and thoughtful. Think about your cherished gifts, such as a scrapbook of shared memories. If you know the person well enough, you’ll be able to come up with something that they will treasure forever.
